The smokestack in Great Egg Harbor Bay in Beesleys Point is set to implode at 10 a.m.

Residents can watch on a Facebook Live here provided by OffShoreDrones. The facility is clearly visible from the Garden State Parkway bridge between Atlantic and Cape May counties.

While designated public viewing points have not been defined, the NJ Turnpike Authority allegedly will be allowing pedestrians on the parkway bike/walking path.

A goodbye party was held last weekend.

The plant and its iconic smokestack have been a longtime landmark along the Jersey Shore. The site's structures have been imploded in phases since last year along the Great Egg Harbor Bay.

"The demolition is substantially complete," township officials said in a statement on Facebook.

Beesely's Point Development Group LLC plans to develop the site.

The implosion is being handled by Controlled Demolition, Inc. of Phoenix, Maryland. All the necessary permitting and notifications have been made, the township said.

Boiler units were imploded in April of this year. The cooling tower was demolished in 2022.

The power plant, built in 1961, operated coal and diesel-fueled electric turbines. The plant shut down permanently in May 2019.
